I Can Draw Farm Fun and I Can Draw Silly Sea Life
I Can Draw Farm Fun and I Can Draw Silly Sea Life were my first books on drawing. These books combined the grid method with the step-by-step approach and were the easiest to follow. Each creature was given a double-page spread that included a step-by-step method, layered on top of a grid on one side. The right-hand page contained a blank grid to practice with and a finished full-color picture at the same scale. Sometimes with additional features such as flowers behind bees or a pond surrounding a frog.

Many animals are included, including domestic pets such as dogs and cats, wild animals such as lions or elephants, and sea creatures like sharks or sea otters. Also, creepy critters like a snake, tarantula, and sea creatures like sea otters and sea otters. These friendly faces are realistic and stylized but not too realistic. There are no handbags or sunglasses on them. The back of the book contains various blank animal heads that can be used to practice different expressions.

Although some teens might follow the instructions on their own, others may need help from an adult.

The Drawing Lesson: A Graphic Novel That Teaches You How to Draw by Mark Crilley
This graphic novel story will teach young artists the lessons of art. These lessons are interwoven into the story of David, a young boy who asks Becky to teach him drawing lessons. He reluctantly agreed, asking her to draw her watch. This is a lesson in scale, blank space, and the differences between the drawing and the actual watch. He continues to be taught by her (reluctantly) shadowing, loose sketching, and negative space. The Drawing Lesson is a wonderful graphic novel that entertains as well as teaches. This book is perfect for artists and students.
