And, as beautiful as coffee table books can get, the cover photo of the Palazzo Brandolini is a stunning one!!

30,000 Years of Art: The Story of Human Creativity across Time and Space

30,000 Years of Art is one of my favorite coffee table books. It’s a vibrant and bold summary of history. It is an artwork with its thick, fearless, yellow, pink, and yellow hardcover. The engaging descriptions of each piece are also beautifully written.

It’s smaller in scale but still very heavy, making it an excellent choice for small accent furniture. Don’t let the color fool you; it won’t slip on larger coffee tables or shelves. Because it invites guests to peek inside, it’s a great conversation starter.

Surveys of American photography often overlook Latinx artists. Frank Gehry is the architect most design lovers are familiar with. He’s responsible for many of the most striking structures globally, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Neuer Zollhof, Dusseldorf, and LUMA arles in France.

Shawn Henderson’s monograph is another glamorous one that’s well worth the weight. The designer’s first book features 14 of his favorite projects. These include sprawling urban houses and lofts, historic farmhouses, and contemporary ski chalets. He also added his own West Village apartment and a country home in upstate New York.

Although each of his interiors is unique, they share his signature style. It’s a quiet luxury with a sense of warmth and serenity that everyone can appreciate at this time of the year. Architectural Digest’s Mayer Rus contributed the title. Stephen Kent Johnson took the photos.

Ali

This photo album is for the sports enthusiast in your life. It features never before seen images of Ali as he rose to the top. Steve Schapiro, a photographer, spent five days with Muhammad Ali, then 21, in Louisville, Kentucky. He captured the man before he was an iconic figure in American sports and pop culture.

This book features the work of Toyin Ojih Olatola, a Nigerian born visual artist based in New York. The most prominent contemporary figurative artist tells the story through illustration. He examines the lives of two fictional aristocratic Nigerian family members.

This narrative explores the effects of colonialism, the slave trade, and other atrocities on the country. It then imagines a different reality. Essays accompany the storytelling on Ojih Odutola written by Zadie Smith and Leigh Raiford.

Art of Feminism: Images that Shaped the Fight for Equality, 1857-2017 by Helena Reckitt

New York Interiors: Simon Upton

Simon Upton, an internationally renowned interiors photographer, has photographed many unique spaces around the globe. However, for his first book, he chose to focus on New York City as it is one of the most fashionable cities globally.
