Cultural and historical importance of Gorakhpur
The Nath culture, a Shaiva sub-tradition within Hinduism in India and Nepal, reached its zenith on the banks of the river Rapti, where Guru Gorakhnath resided and passed away. Gorakhpur was named after him. Gorakhpur is also the birthplace of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankar and the founder of Jainism, who has his origins in the city. In Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir travelled from Varanasi to Magahar, where he worked for a long time and delivered a sermon on the need to live in peace and religious harmony. Similarly, the historic Chauri-Chaura incident, which is widely regarded as a watershed moment in India’s war for independence, occurred in Gorakhpur.
Potential for development in the region
New residential colonies have cropped up all over the place, and the urban population has skyrocketed. The area, on the other hand, needs more development. The Golghar Shops are lovely and give the city a contemporary appearance. The Town Hall is home to the Municipal Corporation’s headquarters and the service station of All India Radio, Doordarshan Kendra, which was established specifically for the development of the rural area. The establishment of a network of hotels and tourist information centers is accelerating. The hotels are comfy, excellent, and well-maintained, and they are recommended.
