What is GSTN?

GSTN or Goods and Services Tax Network is an entity that manages the backend of the GST system in India. A non-profit, non-government company, GSTN provides IT infrastructure and services to the central and state governments, taxpayers and other stakeholders, to implement the Goods and Services Tax in India. The website acts as the central database for all GST-related information in India.


GSTN structure

Incorporated on March 28, 2013, GSTN is set up under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 and under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956. While both, the centre and state governments, have 24.5% equity shares each in GSTN, the remaining 51% share is held by non-governmental institutions through various mechanisms.

However, GSTN may soon be converted into be a fully-owned government organisation, as recommended by the GST Council.

  13. Backend system for 27 states/UTs for assessments, appeal, etc.


GSTN projects

GST: Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax launched in India in 2017.
