Vehicle owners who have purchased a vehicle for personal or commercial use, are required to pay road tax. The taxes collected by the government are utilised for the maintenance of the roads. In India, commercial vehicle owners must pay other state vehicle taxes at the check posts when entering other states. The parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/ portal enables vehicle owners to pay their Check Post Tax online through a simplified process explained below:
Step 1: Go to the official parivahan.gov.in website. On the home page, click on ‘Check Post Tax’ option given under the ‘Online Services’ section.
Step 2: A new page will open. Now, click on ‘Tax Payment’ option.
Step 3: Now, select the name of the state you are visiting and the ‘service name’ from the dropdown. Click on ‘Go’.

Step 4: The ‘Border Tax Payment’ application page will be displayed on the computer screen. Provide th vehicle number and click on ‘Get Details’. Some fields will be auto-filled.
Step 5: Provide the remaining details. Then, click on ‘Calculate Tax’ or ‘Pay Tax’ to pay the calculated tax amount.
Step 6: You will be directed to the payment gateway. Select the payment gateway and click on ‘Continue’.
Step 7: After the tax payment, you will be redirected to the ‘Checkpost’ page. You will get the receipt that can be printed and saved for future reference.

Vahan Parivahan online payment of vehicle tax
To pay vehicle tax online, follow the steps given below:
Step 1: Go to the link vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahaneservice/. Register on the portal with your e-mail ID and mobile number. Then, log in to the portal.

Step 2: Click on ‘Pay Vehicle Tax’ under ‘Online Services’
Step 3: Provide details like Registration Number and Chassis Number. Click on ‘Generate OTP’. Then, enter the OTP you would receive on your registered mobile number. Click on ‘Submit’.
Step 4: In the next step, select ‘Tax Mode’.
Step 5: Provide the ‘Permit Details’ (if applicable).
Step 6: The total payable amount will appear on the screen. Click on ‘Submit’. Then, click ‘Confirm payment’.
Step 7: Choose your payment gateway and accept the terms and conditions. Click on ‘Continue’.
Parivahan Sewa e challan
The Parivahan Sewa website enables users to check the status of their challan online. A challan is issued to a vehicle driver in a situation when the person may intentionally or unintentionally violate traffic rules. Through the E challan Parivahan service, one can check their traffic violation status under the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act through the online parivahan gov in portal.
Step 1: Visit the eChallan System on the Parivahan portal. You will be directed to the E challan parivahan website. Click on ‘Check Challan Status’ under the ‘Check Online Services’ section.
Step 2: Now, enter the challan details by selecting one of the options given – Challan Number, Vehicle Number and DL Number. Submit the Captcha code and click on ‘Get Detail’. The E Challan and the payment details will be displayed on the screen.
Parivahan Sewa online challan payment
One can pay their challan or fines issued to them through the official Parivahan Sewa portal online. You can go to the E challan Parivahan website and click on ‘Check Challan Status’ under the ‘Check Online Services’ section.
Provide the details through one of the options – Challan Number, Vehicle Number or DL Number. Submit the captcha code and click on ‘Get Detail’.
Your e challan status under the challan status row will be displayed. Now, click on ‘Pay Now’ given in the payment column. Select the payment mode and make the payment. You will receive a confirmation message and transaction ID on your registered mobile number.
Parivahan Sewa DL application status check online
You can visit the Parivahan Sewa to know the Driving License (DL) application status after you have completed the DL test and the DL license procedure. Here’s a step by step guide.
Step 1: On the home page, click on ‘Driving License Related Services’ under ‘Online Services’.
Step 2: You will be redirected to the sarathi.parivahan.gov.in website. The main page of the respective state transport department will be displayed. Select ‘Application Status’ on the top right corner of the page.
Step 3: On the next page, enter details such as the application number, date of birth and captcha code. Click on ‘Submit’ to view the DL application status.
Parivahan Sewa RC status check online

The Parivahan Sewa Vehicle Related services include the option to check the Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) status online. Users can follow the procedure explained below:
Step 1: Go to Parivahan gov in portal for RC status check. Click on ‘Vehicle Related Services’ under ‘Online Services’.
Step 2: A new page will open. Select the state from the dropdown menu.
Step 3: Click on ‘Vehicle Registration Number’. Provide the vehicle registration number. Then, select the ‘State RTO’ from the dropdown and click on the ‘Proceed’.

The official Parivahan Sewa portal also provides the facility to book a slot online for the DL test. Applicants should follow the procedure explained below:
Step 1: On the homepage, click on ‘Driving License Related Services’ under ‘Online Services’.
Step 2: Select the state from the dropdown.
Step 3: You will be directed to the transport department page. Select the ‘DL Test Slot Booking’ option under ‘Appointments’.
Step 4: On the next page, enter application details through one of the two options – Application Number or Learner License Number. Provide the application number or learner license number, applicant’s date of birth, and verification code. Click on the ‘Submit’.
Then, you can book the slot for the DL test by selecting the preferred date and time.
Parivahan Sewa vehicle details and services
Citizens of a state can use the Poribohon Sewa website to check their vehicle details and apply for related services. The procedure is explained below:
- Select ‘Vehicle Related Services’ under the ‘Online Services’ section on the home page of Parivahan gov in portal. Choose the state, for example, Assam.
- Select the option ‘Vehicle Registration No’ and enter the vehicle registration number.
- Select the State RTO from the dropdown.
- Click on ‘Proceed’
The page will display a list of services such as:
- Tax or Fee services like Pay your Tax.
- RC related services like Apply for transfer of ownership, Change of address, Hypothecation, Duplicate RC; Application for no objection certificate; RC cancellation; Renewal of registration.
