What is Form 26AS?
Form 26AS is the formal name given to the annual tax credit statement of an individual. Basically, Form 26AS is the credit statement of a taxpayer with details of the TDS deducted from various incomes. Form 26AS also carries details about advance tax payments and high-value transactions.

How to view Form 26AS?
From 2008-09, you can view Form 26AS through net banking. However, you can do so, only if you have a PAN number linked with your net banking account and your bank offers this facility. There are no charges for viewing or downloading Form 26AS.
In our example, we are using the HDFC Bank net banking page to explain the process.
Step 1: Log in to your account, go to the ‘Enquire’ option and click on the ‘View Tax Credit Statements’ option. It will show your PAN number. Click on the ‘Continue’ option.

Step 2: Enter the security code to proceed.
Step 3: Check the ‘I agree’ option and then on ‘Proceed’.

Step 4: You will be redirected to the TRACES page. Click on ‘View Tax Credit (Form 26AS)’ to view your Form 26AS.

Step 5: Select the assessment year for which you want the Form 26AS. In the ‘View As’ option, select HTML or text. Select the HTML option to download PDF.

Form 26AS download
To download Form 26AS, follow the same process as above. At the last step, in place of ‘View/Download’, choose the ‘Export as PDF’ option. Form 26AS will be downloaded to your system as a PDF.

The format of Form 26AS changed with effect from June 1, 2020 and became more detailed, inclusive and comprehensive. The new Form 26AS provides you with a summary of the following:
- Details of TDS deducted by deductors.
- Details of TDS collected by the I-T Department.
- Details of regular assessment tax.
- Details of advance tax payment.
- Details of self-assessment tax payment.
- Details of pending and completed assessment proceedings.
- Details of high-value transactions.

What is Form 26AS?
Issued under Rule 114-I, Form 26AS is a tax credit statement of an individual, providing the following information related to the taxpayer: TDS and TCS Specified financial transactions (SFT) Payment of taxes Demand and refund Pending proceedings Completed proceedings Information received from any officer, authority or body performing any functions under any law or information received under an agreement referred under Section 90 or section 90A GST return Foreign remittance reported in Form 15CC Annexure-II of Form 24Q of the last quarter ITR of another taxpayer Interest on income tax refund Information in Form 61/61A where PAN could be populated Off-market transactions reported by depository/registrar and transfer agent Dividend reported by the registrar and transfer agent Purchase of mutual fund reported Information received from any other person to the extent it may be deemed fit in the interest of the revenue
What if there are discrepancies in the actual TDS and TDS credit according to Form 26AS?
If there is any default on the part of the deductor, the taxpayer will not be able to claim the credit of the correct TDS. The taxpayers must inform the deductor to correct the statements in Form 26AS.
What to do if TDS credit is not reflected in Form 26AS?
In case of non-filing of TDS statement by the payer or quoting of incorrect PAN, TDS credit may not reflect in Form 26AS. Contact the payer for ascertaining the correct reasons for the non-reflection of the TDS credit in Form 26AS.
