What is the NAPS apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a sort of training that is given to workers in order to improve their skills. This training will be offered in the industry by using the available facilities. Basic training and on-the-job training are provided as a part of the apprenticeship programme. The Apprenticeship Act, 1961 was enacted by the Government of India to promote apprenticeship training. NAPS: Apprentice Act, 1961
Employers are required by the Apprentices Act to provide apprenticeship training in both designated and optional trades. In December 2014, the Apprentices Act of 1961 was revised. One of the most significant changes in this act is the updating of the antiquated system of commerce and unit rules. This statute expands the 2.5 percent band to 10% of the total workforce. Optional trades are also made available. Stringent elements such as incarceration and permitting industries to outsource basic training have been deleted as a result of the modification.

Basic training:

On-the-job education:
On-the-job training or practical training is a type of training offered in workplaces. It is usually provided by the establishment. The job training provides the applicant with actual experience so they can perform their task flawlessly.

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme: Purpose
The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme’s main goal is to encourage apprenticeship training across the country by giving various incentives to companies. The government intends to raise the current participation from 2.3 lakh to 50 lakh. The government will split the apprenticeship costs with the business through the national apprenticeship promotion system, so that the financial burden does not rest solely on the employer. Skilled manpower will be generated in India with the help of apprenticeship programmes since apprenticeship training is one of the most efficient ways to build skilled personnel by giving various types of essential training that are available in establishments.
A nationwide apprenticeship promotion plan will also improve employability, training quality, and experiential learning.
National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme: Eligibility
For employers
- A TIN/TAN number is required for the employer.
- Employees must register on the apprenticeship portal, and employers must have an Aadhar-linked bank account.
- The employer must additionally have an EPFO/ESIC/FACTORY/COOPERATIVE/MSME registration number.
- Employers are required to hire apprentices in the range of 2.5 percent to 10% of their overall workforce.
For apprentices
- All apprentices must register on the platform and have an Aadhar number.
- A minimum age, educational qualification, and physical qualification are required for the trade.
- All of the conditions of the apprentice’s act must be met.
- The apprentice must be at least 14 years old.
For providers of basic training
- BTPS requires an Aadhar-linked bank account.
- RDAT requires basic training providers to be physically verified.
- BTPS must create an account on the portal.
National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme: Advantages and features
- The government will promote apprenticeship training through the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme by sharing the cost of training with companies.
- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, modular employable skill under skill development initiative, and other courses approved by state and central governments would be covered under this scheme.

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme: Processing of claims
The government will cover the cost of basic training with basic training providers. The cost of basic training would be limited to Rs 7,500 for 500 hours over 3 months. The government will split 25% of the prescribed stipend with the businesses under the scheme, up to a maximum of $1,500 per month per apprentice.
It should be highlighted that stipend support under the NAPS will not be provided to fresher apprentices during the basic training term. All types of apprentices who are not already covered by the scheme will be covered under this scheme.
Employers are paid a stipend
The full rate of the statutory stipend will be paid to apprentices via their Aadhaar linked bank account. Employers are obligated to obtain the bank account information of all apprentices and pay the amount. Following that, institutions must file proof of payment along with attendance details, and the government of India will return the government’s share on a quarterly basis via RDAT or SAA. The concerned RDAT/states are obligated to check the information that the business has uploaded and, following verification, reimburse the payment of the government’s part to the establishment’s bank account within 10 days of receipt of claims.
Basic training cost
Following the successful completion of basic training, RDAT/States will pay the basic training providers through their bank accounts. After completing basic training and apprenticeship training, the apprentice will receive Rs 5000, with the remaining Rs 2500 going to the basic training provider.

- The facts of the establishment name will then appear on your computer screen.
- You must now click on the name of the establishment where you want to apply.
- Following that, you will be directed to the establishment’s detail page.
- You will now find a link to apply.
- You must click on this link.
- Following that, a NAPS registration form will display in front of you.
- In the registration form, input all of the required information such as the applicant’s registration number, date of birth, email address, and so on. Then click on apply.
- Following this procedure, the applicant’s request for apprenticeship will be sent to the establishment for approval.

NAPS: Funds allocated for apprenticeship training
The Indian government started a national apprenticeship promotion scheme in 2016. The government promotes apprenticeship training through this scheme so that an individual can become proficient in a certain job. Nirmala Sitharaman, our country’s finance minister, announced the union budget for the fiscal year 2021–22 on February 1, 2021.
- The government has suggested amending the Apprenticeship Act in the current budget so that youth apprenticeship possibilities can be expanded. The government has set aside Rs. 3000 crores to encourage apprenticeship training.
- The government has formed a relationship with the United Arab Emirates to promote employee skills, qualifications, evaluation, and certification. This collaboration will enable the deployment of certified manpower.
- In order to provide training to employees, the government has launched a collaborative training programme between India and Japan. This effort will be expanded to include many more countries.

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme: Implementing agencies
The scheme will be implemented by the Central Public Sector undertakings and establishments functioning in at least four or more state regional directorates of apprenticeship training under the direction of the Directorate General of Training. The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme will be implemented by state apprenticeship advisers for the state public sector and a private firm. The state government will establish a state apprenticeship council, which will be followed by the establishment of apprenticeship cells in each state. This cell will be in charge of overseeing the scheme’s execution.

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme: Surveillance
Monitoring is essential to ensure the proper implementation of the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. Every year, approximately 5% to 10% of the beneficiary establishments under the National apprenticeship promotion system will be supervised by actual physical verification. These establishments will be chosen at random using computational algorithms.
