“I came to Mumbai from Gujarat, when I was 16. Initially, I lived as a paying guest and then, in a rented house. Buying property is a huge investment in this city, as the property rates are sky-high. It is a dream come true for me. My home is my comfort zone and it has given me an immense sense of security,” says Goradia, who has also acted in various shows, such as Maharana Pratap, Saat Phere, Mere Apne, Kkusum, Baal Veer, Kahiin to Hoga and reality shows such as Bigg Boss 6 and Khatron ke Khiladi.

A comfortable space, to de-stress

“I was lucky to see one house, which I liked and I bought it. It is a three-bedroom-hall flat, in a high-rise in Malad west. I bought the house when there was a price correction in the real estate market, 7-8 years ago,” she explains. Goradia combined two bedrooms into one spacious room, with a walk-in closet area. However, the purchase wasn’t all smooth sailing for her, as she bought the house through an agent, who turned out to be dishonest. So, she had to hire another agent, to complete the paper work.

“The only thing I wanted from my home, was privacy and that the window should not overlook into another house. Now, I wake up to a beautiful sky and Mumbai’s beautiful skyline. I have a non-automated telescope in my bedroom, which enables me to enjoy viewing the lovely sky. Sometimes, I get to see Jupiter and Venus, if I have the right timing and position,” the actress explains.

Goradia’s home is airy and bright and done up in soothing colours. Aromatic candles add a soothing feel to the space, which is spic and span. Goradia admits that staying in Malad, is convenient. “It is one of the fastest growing suburbs. Multiplexes and malls are at a walking distance,” she elaborates.

The importance of proper financial management

Goradia attributes her ability to buy a house at a young age, to sound financial management. “For self-employed people, it is not easy to take a loan. However, as a tax payer, I had invested wisely and so, I was able to get a loan. Since I invest in equity, I can manage to pay the EMI. It is a personal choice, to invest in equity, debt or various other assets. Nevertheless, one must create a corpus for oneself. I feel extremely blessed, to have a home that I bought and is self-earned,” she says proudly.

A woman should plan and then invest in various asset classes, such as real estate and mutual funds, in addition to the usual savings accounts or fixed deposits. The very first thing for any independent woman, is to secure her health with the right insurance. Young women who are independent, must educate themselves in personal financial management, to understand how to plan for their future, with their hard-earned money. It is amazing to see so many women doing well in their careers. However, buying a home shouldn’t be the only priority. Being financially literate and knowing how to save and invest wisely (in property, equity or debt), is extremely necessary,” concludes Goradia.
