[ecis2016.org] ‘The night is dark, and full of terrors’! If you, like many around the world, are a die-hard Game of Thrones fan, and are looking for ways to incorporate the fantasy of the stories into your home, we’re here to help!
Since it was first aired, Game of Thrones has managed to garner scores of fans, despite that fact that this epic fantasy series was a genre that wasn’t explored much. Inspired by many cultures, including Japanese and Persian, the series frequently pictures huskies, wolf-like dogs, female nude characters and dragons, even as it tries to balance light-heartedness with serious topics like politics.

While the series (which is entering its seventh season) effortlessly merges fantasy with reality, there are several ways in which you can bring its unique feel to your house and take you to a fictional world, with home décor items that are inspired by the Game of Thrones.
Interior designer, Sheena Chhabria, believes that the materials, accessories and colour palettes used in the décor, are very important for this theme.
“Knight’s armour, grungy looking wallpapers, dark-coloured rugs, vintage antique Venetian mirrors, copper or metal containers on the table for fruits or flowers, glass decanters, cushions and runners with royalty emblems and monograms depicting kingdom and royalty, can all add to the feel of the new season,” she adds.

Accessories
The outfits worn by the characters in the series, are made out of fish skins, to resemble dragon scales and other animal skins. Faux animal hide runners or rugs, with these textures, are inexpensive and can also enhance the look of the house.

“Use plenty of leather. Animal hide, metal and darker colours, are key elements to have in mind,” suggests Chhabria.
“It’s easy and cheap to get some flag-like banners, with the names of houses like Stark, Lannister, GreyJoy, Baratheon, Targaryen and Night’s Watch, printed on them. This season I plan to get six cushion covers, with these prints on them, to add the flavour,” says Diksha Dutta, an ardent fan of Game of Thrones.

Adding boxes, coasters, drinks glasses, mugs, lamps, or candles, with prints of the houses, can also do just as good. You could also print the map of Westeros and frame it.
Accents
Wildling bone armour made of moulds taken from real bones and assembled with string and latex, or pieces depicting Dothraki, a race of nomadic horse-mounted warriors, can be adorned on walls, as accent pieces. While these could be expensive, you could make do with medieval-looking vintage jewels.
For the colour of the walls, Chhabria recommends bricks, plastered cement or Indian stone walls. Dim lighting and candle lanterns on the walls, can make for a perfect Game of Thrones setting. For a finishing touch, you can add long ceiling curtains as drapes, with rich embroidery on the mains and long white airy sheers.
