Mac says startup disk is full when it isn’t
When your startup disk is full, you’ll see a notification on the screen informing you of the same. A full disk means your Mac will start behaving strangely as it is running low on space. It typically happens when your Mac is overburdened with too many old logs, outdated files, caches and applications that you don’t use anymore.
To check how much space is left on your startup disk, you have to click the Apple logo & click About This Mac & click Access the storage pane and see available storage space. You need to find and remove all the duplicate files, empty the trash, clear the cache and backup larger files before removing them from your system.

Check your system’s power
Hold the power button for ten seconds on your keyboard and let it go. Try to start your computer again by pressing the power button.

Reset the NVRAM
Resetting the NVRAM on Intel-based Macs can solve a lot of issues. You don’t need to reset the NVRAM on silicon-based machines, but it automatically resets when the computer is started.
For resetting the NVRAM, you need to start your Mac and immediately press Command + Option + P + R keys. It would help if you kept pressing the keys. Then, release the keys after twenty seconds.

Reset the SMC
Resetting the SMC is possible only on Intel-based Macs because silicon-based machines do not have SMC. You can get started by shutting down your Mac and then following these directions:
- On laptops that come with a T2 chip, you need to press and hold the power button for ten seconds after shutting down the computer. Then, release it and wait for a few seconds. After that, press the power button to start your computer.
- On desktop MacBooks, you need to disconnect the power cord and wait for fifteen seconds before plugging the cord back in. You need to switch on your Mac after five seconds.
If this doesn’t work, you can click the Apple menu and Shut Down. Then, you need to press and hold the Control + Option + Shift keys for seven seconds. Your system may switch on during the process but don’t stop holding the keys. You can also press and hold the power button, along with the other keys, and if your system is on, it will get switched off. After holding all four keys for seven seconds, you need to press the power button to switch on the system.

If your MacBook’s screen freezes suddenly, you can do the following to resolve the issue.
If only the Finder is frozen, you need to click the Apple menu > select Force Quit > choose Finder > click Relaunch.
If the entire computer is frozen, you need to click the Apple menu > select Shut Down > unplug all the externals, including monitors and hard drives > reboot your computer.
If the problem is solved, shut down your computer, plug back all the externals and reboot your system. If your system freezes after plugging back the external accessories, the problem is with the accessories, and you need to contact the Apple store to solve the issue.
