What is BUIDCO?
The BUIDCO is the apex urban planning authority in the state of Bihar. As of now, the state ranks poorly in urban population rates. However, as the state seems to be rapidly urbanising today, the BUIDCO is the authority to oversee the state’s transition to an urban-dominant state. The BUIDCO has its headquarters in Maurya Lok, Patna. The institution was set up in 2009.

The government of Bihar established the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to accelerate infrastructure development in the state and is a 100% stakeholder in the organisation. The BUIDCO undertakes infrastructure development activities such as:
- All types of buildings, including commercial, residential, and industrial.
- Laying of roads, highways, expressways, bridges, and all other infrastructure for transport.
- Water services such as pipelines for clean drinking water and water sanitation infrastructure.
- Electricity infrastructure like substations, transformers, and power lines all across the state.
- Educational infrastructure and healthcare services.
The BUIDCO has helped implement schemes such as the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and various Asian Development Bank and World Bank-funded projects.
