Bigha is commonly used across northern parts of India.  The usage of bigha as an area measurement benchmark is common across Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. However, in each state, bigha denotes a different land sizes since there is no standard size attached to this unit. This is why bigha is used with regional variations.
