Jayanagar is one of Bengaluru’s foremost commercial-cum-residential neighborhoods. Jayanagar was founded in the year 1948 and is also known for the Gramadevata Goddess Festival. The area is divided into 7 wards and ten blocks. The 3rd and 4th blocks are predominantly commercial zones, while the remainder are residential zones. Jayanagar was earlier perceived as the southern limit of Bengaluru. The South End Circle and Ashoka Pillar, still bear testimony to the area’s historical past.

The Jayanagar Shopping Complex is a major landmark here, along with the beautiful parks on either side of the Nanda Road. The 4th block is home to several restaurants, shopping destinations and eateries. There is also an Inox Multiplex and bus stand in this block. The Ragigudda Temple and Shree Dharmanath Temple, are the other religious landmarks here. The area is also known for being an educational hub, with major institutions like the Vijaya High School and Sudarshan Vidya Mandir National College located here. Jayanagar is home to a predominantly upper middle-class population, along with government officers. However, the area has witnessed an influx of several IT professionals and businessmen recently. Prominent citizens living here include NR Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, writer Shashi Deshpande and many others.

Although there are various options available, when it comes to apartments in Jayanagar, 2 and 3-BHK homes are the most preferred configurations here. The most prominent builders in Jayanagar include Puravankara, Prestige, Sobha, Brigade and many others. Some landmark projects in Jayanagar include Sobha Opal, Jain Prakriti and Mantri Gardens, which have transformed the area. This area is a good bet for those looking for high-end housing choices, since the property rates are on the higher side here. Due to the establishment of major IT parks in the city, along with all required social infrastructure, Jayanagar offers better potential for appreciation, as compared to most of the neighboring localities.

Popular malls in Jayanagar include the Swagath Garuda Mall and The High Street Mall, to name a few.
