West Bengal to set up 100-acre park, for manufacturing building materials

West Bengal finance and industry minister, Amit Mitra, on September 27, 2019, said that the state government will provide 100 acres in Burdwan district, for setting up an exclusive park for the manufacture of building materials. The government will provide an additional 100 acres, depending upon the demand, he said. The land belongs to West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation.

“We plan to create an exclusive park for building materials manufacturing, for which 100 acres will be provided in the red category certified area of Panagarh,” Mitra said. The finance minister said that the state needed investments in the supply-chain of materials required to build houses. “We have a new logistics policy in place in the state,” he said.

The West Bengal government has decided to expand the Silicon Valley Hub project by at least 200 acres, following healthy demand from IT companies

January 21, 2019: Enthused by the response from the IT sector, the West Bengal government has decided to add at least 200 acres to its Silicon Valley Hub, mayor Firhad Hakim announced, on January 18, 2019. “Demand is huge. Already, demand exceeded for 200 acres out of 100 acres meant for the hub. I have asked WBHIDCO (West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation) to look for another 200 acres, close to the existing plot,” Hakim said at the launch of ‘Zone by The Park’ hotel at Biswa Bangla Convention centre.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee earlier said the state government would add another 100 acres to the Silicon Valley Hub, after getting an overwhelming response from four IT companies. The Silicon Valley project was launched in August 2018, to attract investment in the IT/ITeS/ICT space and to also build a world-class ecosystem for cutting-edge technologies and innovation. She had earlier said Reliance Jio, TCS, Capgemini and First Source, had expressed interest to acquire space there.
