“There is an element of mystique, with a lot of lanterns and earthy tones to bring a homely appeal to the set. The house is colourful and vibrant, with lots of paintings. The orientation of the living room and the bedroom have been interchanged, with a special seven-sleeper bed for select contestants. For the element of luxury, there is a Jacuzzi. Design elements have been incorporated, to create a balanced experience for the celebrities, as well as the common man contestants,” says Kumar.

This season, the Bigg Boss house also has a jail, in a corner of the garden area, with two iron beds. This jail will be a dungeon of sorts, for the contestants who break the rules. “There is an Indian-style bathroom for the qaidis and an earthen pot, along with aluminium plates and mugs, to make the entire experience more realistic,” adds Kumar.

Actor Ankit Gera, (Bigg Boss Season 9 contestant)

“The first time I stepped inside the house of Bigg Boss, it looked like a beautiful and vibrant place. It was attractively designed, with eye-catching colours and a subtle Mediterranean feel. It was clean and comfortable. However, when it came to the contestants maintaining the place, it became a task with regular fights. I had to often clean the kitchen, especially the platform, after the cooking was done. One learns how to maintain a house, after such a stay. The design and aesthetics of the house were amazing but there were only two bathroom showers and toilets for almost 15 people. With cameras all around, there is no privacy.

After all, one is in a TV show! I was there for a week only but after that stay, I love and value my home a lot. It is my personal pace and peaceful haven.”
