List Of Harry Potter Characters With Pictures
Ginny Weasley
After her appearance in The Sorcerer’s Stone, Ginny and Harry’s eventual love affair captured our attention. It felt like it had been there all along. It was only natural for Harry to find love in the same family he found his family. It was refreshing to see Harry in Hogwarts as the proud, pensive child he was.
Although it was not captured on film, Ginny is a true leader of rebel forces unlike any other. As a Dumbledore’s Army member, she is a strong, determined, and attractive woman. Ginny is the girl who got her man we love.
Dobby
“Such a beautiful place… to be with friends.” It is difficult not to get misty eyed when you think back to the moment Dobby, the house-elf, said those words in Deathly Hallows Part. These were his final words. Dobby was quite annoying when we first met him. Dobby was a small, odd looking creature who had a tendency to hurt himself.
This made it very difficult for Harry Potter when he started his second year at Hogwarts. However, despite any short term consequences, Dobby’s noble intentions and determination to help Harry were admirable.
Dobby’s part in the movie series is much smaller than that in the books. He made frequent appearances between Deathly Hallows and Chamber of Secrets. We see more of Dobby’s kindness and loyalty towards Harry Potter in the books.
Even those who only knew Dobby through The Chamber of Secrets movie were likely to be affected by his sacrifice in The Deathly Hallows Part, where he saved Harry and his friends from an awful situation only to lose to Bellatrix Lestrange. One of the most moving moments in the series was Dobby’s dying moments. He clearly didn’t regret giving his life to Harry.
Neville Longbottom
Neville Longbottom is the ultimate dimwit turned hero. Neville Longbottom was shy and introverted when we first met him at Hogwarts. He is not very good at magic. Many people close to Neville wondered if Neville might be a Squib.
This is someone who was born into a wizarding clan without any magic abilities. Although he is a charming character, his early misadventures do not foreshadow the brave defender of Hogwarts he would become.
Although he shows loyalty and bravery from an early age, it’s not until Neville’s fifth year and his participation with Dumbledore’s Army that we really see him come into his own. Neville joins his friends as they travel to the Department of Mysteries.
There, he meets Bellatrix Lestrange, who is a twisted servant of Voldemort and tortured his parents many years ago. This was a turning point in Neville’s life, which led to some incredible moments of bravery at the Battle of Hogwarts.
Albus Dumbledore
It is remarkable that Professor Dumbledore, a character only recently introduced to popular culture, has already earned his place among the great mentor figures of literature and film. Albus Percival Wulfric Dumbledore plays the role of a wise sage and guide in the story, just like Yoda and Gandalf.
Dumbledore’s whimsical eccentricity might lead people to believe he is an absent minded professor. It would be a mistake to think otherwise, as Dumbledore is one of the greatest wizards ever to live.
We loved Richard Harris’ soft spoken style early on in the film, but we have to admit that Michael Gambon was right at home showing Dumbledore when he was at his best from fighting Voldemort one-on-one to defeating him, to defeating a horde of zombie like Inferi.
After Snape’s death in the astronomy tower, Harry was left without him. His absence was profound, even though Harry began to discover new and troubling information about his mentor before finally accepting him as the great man that he was, despite the flaws that he freely admitted.
Gellert Grindelwald
Although Voldemort may have overshadowed his reputation, there was a time when Grindelwald stood out as the most hated villain in the wizarding world. Although he only makes a brief appearance in Harry Potter, Grindelwald manages to stop Voldemort.
Fantastic Beasts is where Grindelwald really comes into his own as a villain. These prequels show Grindelwald’s terror reign in the early 0th Century, as well as his complicated relationship with Albus Dumbledore, his close friend and rival. Not every villain can hide for the duration of a movie without being seen.
Gilderoy Lockhart
Gilderoy Lockhart is a charmer. He is a charmer, and it was his charisma (and sometimes a memory charm) that made him one of the greatest wizards of all time.
Lockhart’s vain and self-aggrandizing habit of exaggerating one’s own achievements would prove costly when he was appointed as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Although he initially enjoyed the opportunity to be promoted, his incompetence and buffoonery soon took over. Harry Potter and his friends reveal his false claims after Lockhart, who attempted to flee from the school when he was ordered to face the monster in The Chamber of Secrets, tried to run.
Albus Severus Potter
Harry Potter’s childhood was difficult, being called The Boy who Lived. Still, it is nothing compared to growing up in the most famous wizarding family for a father. Albus Severus’ name is after two of the most influential wizards in history. He is the center of his central conflict. He feels the pull of fame and anonymity and, good and bad, Gryffindor or Slytherin.
The Potter movies only give us a glimpse of Harry and Ginny’s troubled son. You must be able to see Harry Potter and The Cursed Child live to get the whole story of Albus Severus’ experience at Hogwarts. We are hopeful that this young wizard will soon be in the spotlight of cinematic film.
Molly Weasley
Now imagine a loving, caring, and giving mother. Add magic. This is Molly Weasley. Her husband Arthur is a dear friend, but Molly’s treatment of Harry has been an especially wonderful part of the series.
Harry was an orphan who was treated cruelly by his aunts and uncles. His relationship with Sirius, his godfather, was also tragically short. Harry was an orphan who was treated horribly by his aunt and uncle. His relationship with Sirius, his godfather, was tragically short.
We’re familiar with Molly as a lovingly concerned (or amusingly cursing, if Fred and George are Fred and George) mother figure. But she also has her own strength and courage to call on willingly taking on the Order of the Phoenix. Bellatrix also learned the hard lesson when her children were threatened.
George Weasley
Our three heroes struggled at Hogwarts, trying to figure out their futures. The Weasley twins were able to know their passion, knowing their pranks, gags, and gaffes.
While the rest of the world was worried about their exams, Ron’s older brothers were able to see the big picture and have a great sense of humor. The brave brothers were born on April Fool’s because they had always been there to support Harry in difficult situations.
We all wished to have grown up with the older brothers Ron and their constant pestering of Ron. We saw that Umbridge was not just a goofy side splitter. These two were courageous and brave freedom fighters. Fred would eventually pay the ultimate price for this spirit.
Sirius Black

“Have you seen this wizard?” “Approach with extreme caution!” “Notify immediately by owl the Ministry of Magic.”. These were the posters that were posted all over the wizarding world after Sirius Black’s escape out of Azkaban prison.
He had been sentenced years ago for the murder of Muggles and the aiding Lord Voldemort. But Sirius Black is innocent. The character comes to life only when he is vindicated.
Sirius was a friend of James Potter and Lily Potter. They even named him Harry’s godfather. He retains an edgy and rebellious appeal, but it is the father/son bond that Sirius and Harry develop that makes him so beloved. Unfortunately, Sirius is not able to be the father figure Harry longs for.
Alastor Mad Eye Moody
Grizzled. Alastor Mad Eye Moody could be described in one word: grizzled Moody, one of the most well known Aurors of all times, was a fierce fighter for justice in the First and Second Wizarding Wars.
His eye had been damaged and replaced by a magical one. He also has a wooden leg, and his face is scarred. He was also emotionally traumatized by his experiences in battle paranoid and bitter.
Despite his fragile mental state, Moody was persuaded by Dumbledore that he should come out of retirement to become the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
Barty Crouch Jr. attacked Moody and trapped him, then impersonated him with a polyjuice potion to serve Voldemort. The true Moody would continue to protect Harry Potter from Voldemort’s forces in the Order of the Phoenix until his death in The Deathly Hallows Part.
Bellatrix Lestrange
Some people enjoy being evil. We have proof. Let us introduce you Bellatrix lestrange. And we suggest that you pray for your survival. Bellatrix is not as cold calculating and calculating as Lucius Malfoy or Voldemort.
She just loves doing wicked, wicked and hilarious things. We discovered her backstory and how she tortured Neville Longbottom’s parents so horribly that it drove them insane.
Bellatrix was not satisfied with her escape from Azkaban. Sirius Black was her cousin, and she murdered Bellatrix, which, as usual, made Harry Potter feel more than normal. Harry Potter lost a close friend.
Then, she tortured Hermione and killed Dobby, giving her a shocking list of accomplishments. Her final fate seems well deserved, considering all the destruction she caused.
Draco Malfoy
We can only follow Harry Potter’s righteous adventures during his time at Hogwarts. It makes perfect sense to follow his cracked mirror reflection. The Aryan, aristocratic Puke Draco Malfoy, who grew up completely opposite to Harry, was privileged, pompous, and prejudiced.
Harry needed something to distract him when school was not in session, even though Voldemort was threatening. Draco tried his best to make Harry’s day as difficult and stressful as possible.
Just as we thought Draco was just a nuisance, the Dark Lord charged him with killing Dumbledore. We suddenly witnessed Draco’s induction into the ranks of true evil, and we became invested in his decisions, especially when Dumbledore showed us that Draco Malfoy was not a murderer.
Minerva McGonagall
Professor McGonagall is the head of Gryffindor House and Deputy Headmistress at Hogwarts. She can be strict. She will quickly expel misbehaving students from her class and deduct house points if necessary. She can be a cool aunt, the one who lets you make a little bit of mischief. McGonagall is so charming because of that.
Growing up at Hogwarts, she returned as an adult to the school to teach Transfiguration under Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. Later, he would entrust her to the position of Deputy Headmistress and allow her to serve alongside him in the Order of the Phoenix in the First Wizarding War.
McGonagall was among the Order members who went to Privet Drive after Harry Potter defeated Voldemort. She left the child with the Dursley family, whom she considered the worst kind of Muggles. Later, she would take Potter to her house at Hogwarts, where she would watch over him all the time.
Delores Umbridge
We hate this woman so much; it’s why she is on this list. J.K. Rowling did a great job creating Dolores Umbridge. Voldemort is a great villain, but it’s possible to argue that he never got under the skin of Harry like Umbridge.
Voldemort entered Harry’s life and went out again. Although his threat was constant, he wasn’t actually walking the halls of Hogwarts. Umbridge? Harry was miserable without her for a year.
This woman thinks that a punishment for a student should be a ritual that causes the student to bleed repeatedly. It is one of many deplorable acts. Her disgustingness was further accentuated by her forced singing voice and garish pink clothes. Imelda Staunton does an excellent job portraying this character.
However, it is important to note that Umbridge in the movie is just as bad as she is in the book. This makes Harry Potter readers feel a deep hatred for the fictional character. Stephen King called Umbridge the greatest make-believe villain since Hannibal Lecter.
Lucius Malfoy
Draco Malfoy was trouble right from the moment we met him. It was no surprise to learn that his father was also a troublemaker. Lucius is a man of power and influence in the wizarding world. He hides behind a shield to protect his wealth while planning some very dark things.
As a long standing supporter of Voldemort’s cause, his actions set the stage for The Chamber of Secrets. He slipped Tom Riddle’s old diary into Ginny Weasley’s cauldron. Lucius’s unintentional, nitpicky comments about the Weasley families are enough to make us hate him.
But, on top of that, Lucius has demonstrated that he will do anything to support his Dark Lord, even in one-on-one confrontations.
Jason Isaacs brings Lucius to life in the movies. You can see his conviction and anger in his actions. The Deathly Hallows Part 2 saw Lucius fall from grace as he had more to prove to his Dark Lord. This only added to the fascination we have for the character.
Newt Scamander
A Harry Potter spinoff series would not be complete without a Harry Potter clone as the main character. Newt Scamander quickly became a different kind of wizard hero. Newt Scamander is nerdy, awkward, and obsessed with his work. It’s almost as if Hermione were the main protagonist in the Harry Potter films.
Newt, thanks to the Fantastic Beasts prequels, has been our portal into the bizarre and wonderful creatures in the Harry Potter universe.
Although we wish that the first two films had given Newt more depth and character, rather than Dumbledore’s soft spoken errand boy in Dumbledore’s movies, Newt has many more movies to explore. The current score for Newt is an N, which stands for Needs Improvement.
Remus Lupin
Harry Potter had every reason to distrust Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers after his experiences during his first two years. Remus Lupin was a very different cut than Quirrell and Lockhart. Lupin is a caring, kind presence in Harry’s world.
While Dumbledore was certainly there to help Harry, Lupin was more readily available for him during the year he was his teacher. He was an old friend of Harry’s parents and could give Harry intimate, personal insight into their lives that no one else could.
He’s a werewolf, all that and more! Lupin doesn’t consider this a plus, but it’s an interesting extra element to the character. We see Lupin, a thoughtful and warm man, trying to control the werewolf he becomes.
While Lupin’s role in Harry’s life is diminished after The Prisoner of Azkaban, he still plays a vital part in Harry’s life as well as a valiant member of the Order of the Phoenix. Tonks sees this as something more.
Luna Lovegood

“I know she’s insane, but it’s in a good way.” Ron Weasley’s description of Luna Lovegood is exactly what makes this Looney Ravenclaw girl so delightful. She is a quirky type who has a fascination with the macabre.
It’s not surprising she is a bit odd, considering her mother’s tragic accident and the fact that her father, Xenophilius, publishes The Quibbler, a bizarre wizarding tabloid.
Despite being shunned for her eccentricities, Luna’s life is transformed when she meets Harry Potter along with his friends on the Hogwarts Express. They are on their way to their fifth year at school. Luna is a crucial member of Dumbledore’s Army’s heroic student group, and she plays a key role in the group.
Rubeus Hagrid
Hagrid was a warm, fuzzy, and friendly brute who came to the rescue of a boy like Harry. He grew up in a family without friends. He was a true friend. Hagrid was there for Harry when others at Hogwarts would make fun of Harry or shrug off Harry’s questions with strange glares. Even if he’s a bit of a klutz, it’s always good to have someone on your payroll who is big and dependable.
Because of his relationship with Harry, Hermione, and Ron, Hagrid’s most emotional and powerful moments are still resonant. As we, the audience, watch our favorite students grow and become young warriors, he’s our surrogate.
We all will cherish the short scene in Goblet of Fire where he walks with our heroes through the woods, recalling good times together.
Voldemort
Lord Voldemort, also known as Tom Marvolo Riddle, was the evilest thing about him. He was corrupt to his core. For such a wicked spirit, there would be no redemption. Voldemort’s dark exterior never allowed for any good to lie dormant.
As a child, he was not corrupted. He was the corrupter. You know you are the ultimate master of malice when other powerful sorcerers can’t even speak your name.
Voldemort, the most sinisterly feared villain since Darth Vader, was truly terrifying. Harry was able to avoid certain death in book after book. His only Defense was his thin skin.
As clever as Harry was, we couldn’t figure out how he could defeat such an evil force. Voldemort may not have been able to understand love or friendship, but that didn’t stop us from taking pleasure in such a horrible dude.
Severus Snape
Severus Snape is a major character in Harry Potter. Snape, if you’re Harry, is a terrible teacher. He picks on Harry from the first time he enters Potions class and shows clear favoritism towards Draco Malfoy, as well as Draco Malfoy and other Slytherin students.
But… Snape wasn’t the one trying to steal the Sorcerer’s Stone. Harry and his friends believed he was. Snape, however, seemed to be trying to protect the stone, and, every once in a while, he actually appeared to be trying to help these children.
Snape became one of the most talked about and debated characters in Harry Potter. Are his good qualities mixed with evil? Or is he a man with some good qualities but possesses many very bad traits? Or is there something more?
Snape’s murder of Dumbledore was a turning point for Harry. He couldn’t comprehend Dumbledore being betrayed and betrayed by the man he trusted so much. Snape was portrayed by Alan Rickman, who brings the same charisma that he has given to many other screen villains from Die Hard to this day.
Ron Weasley
Harry Potter’s sidekick and best friend, Ron Weasley. Ron, unlike many sidekicks, is not a coward, a simpleton or content to live under Harry’s shadow.
Ron, the comic relief of the trio of sidekicks that make up the main cast, is what makes him so charming. He lacks Harry’s natural magic talent or Hermione’s intelligence, but he overcomes these shortcomings with loyalty and perseverance.
Ron, despite his fear of spiders and loyalty to Harry, follows Harry into the Forbidden Forest. He mixes it up with the bad guys quite a few times throughout the series. He transforms from a grumbling Gryffindor keeper into a Quidditch hero and works undercover at Hogwarts in order to co-found Dumbledore’s Army, a vigilante student group.
Ron’s flirtation/frustration with Hermione is also a highlight of the series. It was hard for Ron to leave Harry and Hermione after all that they had been through. But it was so satisfying when he returned to face some very personal, nightmarish dreams (forget the spiders, he saw Harry & Hermione naked and getting on! They were defeated with the courage of true Gryffindors.
Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger is Harry Potter’s best girl pal and Ron Weasley’s best friend. But she’s so much more than a token for female viewers/readers to identify with. She actually narrowly beats Ron to second place on our list. Why?
We are glad you asked. J.K. Rowling, Potter author, describes Hermione as very logical and upright, but also very good. While Hermione is initially depicted as a smart, good hearted person who follows the rules, it’s great to see her become so much more throughout the series.
Hermione is the voice of reason in both the films and novels. But, she will break the law if it is for the greater good. Her Spock like logic doesn’t help when hormones are involved. In fact, it is a complete disservice when it comes to Ron’s love-hate relationship. There is no better magical friend than the brightest witch of her age.
Harry Potter
Although Harry Potter is the most popular character on our list, it is important to reflect on why he has been so beloved by so many people. He is a sympathetic character, a child who was born into difficult circumstances and then thrust into a magical world. He discovers that he is gifted with extraordinary power.
Then he is pitted against Lord Voldemort, who killed his father and mother years ago. Everyone loves a story about an underdog, good vs. bad, and we have watched Harry’s growth in this wonderful setting, forming friendships and fighting foes and ultimately finding love.
Harry realizes only a part of his deepest wish to see his deceased parents again. However, the adults who care for him, such as Albus Dumbledore and Hagrid, Molly, Arthur Weasley and Sirius Black, are fathered to and mothered to him. As close as any brother or sister, Harry’s faithful friends Ron (and Hermione) are.
Harry was in dire need of all the help he could get to fight the evils he saw at school, from Draco Malfoy, the bully, to the soul sucking Dementors, the horrible Death Eaters, and finally, the Dark Lord himself.
Harry was not perfected by J.K. Rowling. He was prone to a temper tantrums at times, and he made crucial mistakes that cost him his friendship. Harry’s flaws only serve to make us feel closer to him.
He feels so real and part of both our world and the magical one that he was unaware of for the first 0 years. He is the The Chosen One and carries the weight of the entire world on his shoulders. It’s a lot, but Harry Potter is strong despite the immense loss and the need to make terrible sacrifices for his family.
