To save commuting time between the different NCR regions and to boost connectivity to the farther areas around Delhi, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has proposed a rapid rail transit system (RRTS) corridor, connecting Delhi, Sonipat and Panipat. This is one of the three rapid rail corridors planned under Phase-1 of the RRTS, while the other two are the Delhi-Alwar and the Delhi-Meerut corridors. Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat RRTS route

Starting from Hazrat Nizamuddin, this 103-km RRTS corridor will offer interchange with other two RRTS corridors, along with the Indian Railways, ISBT and Delhi Metro stations. There will be a total of 16 stations of which only two will be underground.

The Delhi-Panipat RRTS corridor is likely to be extended till Karnal. This corridor will be in the north-west direction from Delhi and would include Sonipat, Ganaur, Samalkha and Panipat in Haryana. It will reduce the total travel time between Panipat and Delhi to 74 minutes and will be constructed at an expense of Rs 21,627 crores.

The trains along the RRTS corridor will run at an average speed of 120 km/h and a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

This entire stretch has a large number of educational and hospitality institutions, for which the RRTS will act as a catalyst for growth and regional development. According to media reports, this corridor will bring both, environmental and economic benefits, to the entire region.

The new connectivity between Delhi and Panipat will revive the realty market in the farther areas of the NCR. Once the construction begins, there will be a marked improvement in the social, physical and civic infrastructure, including roads, transportation, educational institutions, hospitals, shopping malls, banks, commercial hubs and other facilities. The new amenities that are likely to develop over a period of time, could result in property price appreciation in the nearby areas and towns along this route.
