Jaipur Metro: All you need to know

In 2015, Jaipur became the sixth city in India to have metro connectivity. Operated by the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC), this metro rail network currently links the eastern part of the city with the west. In the upcoming phases, the north-south corridor is expected to further boost connectivity in the state capital of Rajasthan.

Jaipur Metro: Details

The idea of commencing metro connectivity in Jaipur cane into being, keeping in mind the rapid development of commercial and industrial zones in the city. Jaipur’s population has grown exponentially in the past decade, due to its booming employment market. To boost public transport infrastructure, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was brought on board as a consultant, to help the JMRC plan the metro network. The construction work on the Jaipur Metro Pink Line began in February 2011. Soon, it became the fastest metro network in the country to reach the trial run stage after starting construction.

Jaipur Metro route and stations

There are two phases of Jaipur Metro. Phase-I includes the Pink line while Phase-II contains the Orange Line. Phase-I is further divided into three parts, out of which two are operational while the third is under-consideration. Phase-II is currently under-construction.

Jaipur Metro Phase-IA

This was the first route on the Jaipur Metro network to become operational. It connects Mansarovar to Chandpole. Phase-IA of the Jaipur network is 9.63 kms long. The route was completed in 2014 but the public operations started in June 2015.

Jaipur Metro Phase-IB

This is the extended part of Phase-IA, as it connects Chandpole to Badi Chaupar. This also marks the completion of the Pink Line from Mansarovar Metro station to Badi Chaupar via Civil Lines and Chandpole. This route was opened for public use in September 2020. The total length of this stretch is 2.3 kms.

Jaipur Metro Phase-IC

Still under planning, Phase-IC, is an extension of the Pink Line till Transport Nagar from Badi Chaupar. The total length of this stretch will be 2.85 kms. If approved, this route is expected to be completed by March 2025.

Jaipur Metro Phase-II

Currently under construction, Phase-II of the Jaipur metro will connect the Sitapura Industrial Area with Ambabari via the Ajmeri Gate and the MI Road. The route is scheduled for completion in 2021. The total length of this stretch, with 20 stations, also known as the Orange Line, is 23 kms. However, this route is under revision due to backlash from the public.
