Project to augment water supply in Dwarka, approved

[ecis2016.org] The Delhi government has approved several measures to boost water supply in Dwarka, such as the creation of a water body and groundwater recharging

The Delhi government, on March 28, 2018, approved a project to augment potable water supply in Dwarka sub-city, by creating new sources of raw water, according to an official statement. At a meeting of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), chaired by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the proposal to create a water body at Dwarka water treatment plant was passed, it said. An influent will be taken from the 20-MGD waste-water treatment plant at Pappankalan, for the water body at Dwarka. The effluent will be treated through phytorid waste water treatment process, thereby, also recharging the groundwater.

The Board also approved the laying of sewer lines in Ranhola group of colonies, it said. The projects will benefit around 6.7 lakh people in the area. Also, under the JICA rehabilitation plan of the command area under Chandrawal water treatment plant, the Board approved the construction of a 52.25 MLD booster pumping station at Jhandewalan reservoir to improve water supply. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 13 crore.

Aimed at improving the quality of Yamuna water, the Board approved the work of rehabilitation and upgradation of Rithala Phase-I waste-water treatment plant, the statement added.
