“We are committed towards completing the 1st phase by Dec 2023. We are happy the way the project has picked up pace,” said Shinde. The second phase is expected to be operational 6 months after the first phase.
Added Fadnavis, “Nearly 17 lakh people will travel daily on this line once it is operational. With the commencement of this line, nearly seven lakh vehicles will go off road. It will definitely support the environmental cause. We are satisfied with the progress of the project and glad it’s in able hands.”

Metro line 3 is a 33.5 km underground route that will connect south Mumbai with the western suburbs, thereby reducing the burden on the Mumbai suburban trains. The trial run marks an important development in the realisation of the Metro line 3 track that is shrouded in controversy. The construction of Metro car shed at Aarey, a forested land adjoining the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, was reversed by the present government. With the car shed now being constructed at Aarey, the investment made for the car shed will not go waste. Presently, the Supreme Court has issued a directive to MMRCL on following the undertaking on no-cutting of trees at the Aarey colony.
Presently, as part of Mumbai Metro, Mumbai Metro Line 1 and phase 1 of Lines 2A and 7 are operational with the trail runs of phase 2 of Lines 2A and 7 to kick off from October 2022. The second phase of the 2A and 7 Mumbai metro lines are expected to start by December 2022 end.
Finally, at the flagging off event, the chief minister also mentioned that the first phase of Mumbai Nagpur Expressway also known as Samruddhi Mahamarg between Shirdi and Nagpur will be inaugurated soon.
