The Bigg Boss Season 13 house theme
The vibrant set has been designed by noted Bollywood art director Omung Kumar, who has been doing it for years now. “To reduce pollution we have cut down the use of plastic and instead, opted for fibre and plaster of Paris. We call it the ‘Bigg Boss Museum’, as it is sober and colourful at the same time. The Big Boss Museum has been carefully crafted and each wall has elements that reflect the contestants’ ideologies and exemplify the game and its rules. There is a wall with caricatures of different emotions that denote the various shades of a person and the roles they will play. We have balanced out quirky modules with furniture having muted shades. We have used bright lighting, to boost the mood and amplify the set-up well,” Kumar explains.
A green entrance to the Bigg Boss House
The set, which was designed in almost six months, has a welcoming vertical garden, which forms the entrance to the house. The smartly-designed, 20-ft vertical garden, with greenery and flowers, is in the shape of a double ‘B’. The Bigg Boss house also has a garden, a pool and a gym. Shades of fluorescent, combined with subtle tones of purple and pink, create a dynamic atmosphere in the house where the celebrities will reside for a 100 days or less, depending on their eviction.
Pop art on the walls
Prints of dictionaries, with doodles over it, have been fixed at the entrance of the bathroom. Pop art and graffiti adorn the walls across the house, while figures of legs and sharks hanging on walls, add to the quirky element. A cosy seating area, shaped in the form of a hot air balloon, is placed in the corner of the wash area. The kitchen has utensils as wall art, in pastel colours of various shapes and sizes. A large and fancy counter top, a striking backsplash and stylish lighting, make the state-of-the-art kitchen, named ‘BB Café’, a vibrant place.

Palatial living room
The living room where all the drama takes place, with tasks being read out and contestants being reprimanded, is palatial and colourful. This open living space, which links to the kitchen, has modern, as well as antique pieces of furniture. A huge flat-screen television has been placed across the seat-out, for all the contestants to get a glimpse of their host. The walls are adorned with various, large-sized hand gestures, such as ‘Yo’, ‘Thumbs-up’, ‘Peace’, etc. One of the ceilings has been transformed into an inverted chessboard, with a life-size Staunton chess pieces, symbolic of the game where the inmates try different strategies, to out play each other.

The contestants’ bedroom has 14 beds – one single bed, various double beds and also one bed that can be shared by three people. The headboard of each bed has faux fur headrests. The words, ‘Dear karma, I have a list of people that you missed’, are inscribed on the bedroom door. The confession room has hundreds of ropes dangling from the ceiling and a divan for the contestants to be seated.
Watchful eyes
Ever since the show started, the eye has been the main symbol of the Bigg Boss show. This year, the house has 93 cameras in all, watching over the contestants. This theme is evident in the home décor too. A huge swimming pool has been built in the shape of an eye.
A huge table in the shape of an eye, divides the large living room from the kitchen, while the washroom has eye-shaped mirrors. An entire wall in the Bigg Boss house has depictions of eyes in various shapes and forms, which serve as a reminder to the inmates, of the cameras that constantly watch over them.
‘Bigg Boss 13’ house to be eco-friendly
The inmates of the 13th season of ‘Bigg Boss’, will be staying in a new eco-friendly home spread across 18,500 sq ft
September 24, 2019: The new house of the Salman Khan-hosted reality show ‘Bigg Boss’, which is in its 13th season, will be eco-friendly, with reduced use of plastic during the construction. “We have tried to reduce the use of plastic, as much as we could. This is done basically to reduce pollution. We have used more fibre and different plaster of Paris (POP). Plastic and thermocol was easier, simpler, lighter and cheaper but as Indian citizens, we need to think about the larger picture. We used POP and fibre, which is long-lasting,” art director-filmmaker Omung Kumar, who designed the house, said.
Sharing similar views, the makers of the show, Endemole Shine India, said the effort was to become more responsible towards nature. “We try to eliminate as much plastic as possible. We have also protected the tree, which was already there in the area, where we have built the house. It is not a statement that we are trying to make but a policy that we are trying to adopt,” Abhishek Rege, CEO, Endemole Shine India, said. The ‘Bigg Boss’ this season, has been moved from Lonavala to Filmcity in suburban Mumbai. “This was largely done for the convenience of the team. We were toying with the idea of getting it here and now it has materialised,” he added.
One common design across the house is the ‘Bigg Boss eye’ and faces of various animals, etched on the walls. The entrance will have a 20-ft vertical garden in the shape of a double ‘B’, while the swimming pool has been built in the shape of an eye, continuing with the general theme of the house of a museum. “We call it ‘Bigg Boss Museum’, because it is sober and colourful at the same time. Museum as a concept justifies the interior of the house,” Kumar said.
The infamous ‘Confession Room’ has a rustic and mysterious vibe, with the backseat done with mirror work at the borders and hundreds of ropes hanging down. It took about 500 to 600 workers to build the house in about six months. The upcoming season will premiere on September 29, 2019, on Colors channel.

Bigg Boss Season 12 House: Rough seas await contestants in a tranquil beach house
Bigg Boss Season 12, the popular reality show on Colors TV hosted by Salman Khan, has been a trending subject due to its ensemble of inmates. We look at what goes into making the interiors of the house used in the latest season
October 6, 2018: Besides the tasks and the chemistry between the inmates, what also catches the viewers’ attention in Bigg Boss Season 12, is bound to be the beautifully designed interiors of the house, which is inspired by the sea. The theme of the house focuses on beach stays and the walls, furniture, accessories and lights, all reflect a sea life décor.
The luxurious house in Lonavala has been designed by art director and Bollywood’s well known design expert, Omung Kumar and his wife Vanita, who is a production designer.

Designing the Bigg Boss house is always challenging and fun, says Kumar. “This season, the Bigg Boss house has been themed around a modern, luxurious, holiday destination. There is an element of underwater mystique to the décor, with a lot of shells and watery tones to bring out the beauty of the sea,” adds Kumar, who has been associated with the show for the last seven seasons.
The Bigg Boss season 12 house theme
The Bigg Boss season 12 house, with its calming and soothing décor, resembles an aquatic castle. The colours largely used are blues, turquoise and teal and pearl, from vibrantly modern to aesthetically rustic shades.
The huge and vibrant living room has a sea-side feel, with a fresh citrus sofa set against white-washed wooden wall panelling. The walls are adorned with depictions of sea creatures like seahorses, starfish, oysters, etc., while a huge tree trunk, accentuated with twinkling fairy lights, adds to the coastal vibe.
The water-based theme continues into the dining area, which has a collection of seascapes, scones and bright crockery. The navy blue kitchen top is in the shape of a ship. Marine fixtures in the form of wooden shutters and mounted sequin dolphins are in-sync with the rest of the house. A huge wooden boat hung upside-down, serves as a lamp over the dining table.
The bedroom has an eclectic mix of patterns and colours, with shades of blue resembling waves. One of the walls gives the feel of an underwater space, with sea animals painted on it. The décor in the bedroom resembles the interiors of a ship, with mirrors resembling windows and headboards of the bed depicting waves. The blue-coloured beds have sea animals painted in white, while the chandeliers in the room are made of artificial sea shells.
The cabana-styled bathroom has paddles hanging around and a wall mural near the bathtub is adorned with shells, starfish, oysters and corals.
The confession room
The confession room has been designed on a bohemian theme, with a fusion of colours, textures and patterns. The chair in this room has a fur cover for comfort, while hanging beads, tassels, colourful lanterns, cushions and a low wooden table, enhance the elegance of this space. In the midst of all this marine décor, there is also a dreary area of gloom and darkness – the jail where contestants, who go against the rules of the show, are imprisoned.
Most of the outdoor walls are adorned with surfboards, with the words ‘Bigg Boss’ written on one of them. A swimming pool, a small sandy area with a swing, an open-air gym and unique seating spaces in the porch, designed in the shape of a boat, complete the setup. A beach-like landscape is seen all around the house, through an amalgamation of elements depicting sand, water, corals, etc.
In this spectacular setting of a beach house, with 89 cameras, the contestants of Bigg Boss 12 will battle it out for around 100 days, under the command of host Salman Khan.
“The beach-inspired tranquil décor of the Bigg Boss house, lures the contestants into thinking that their journey in the house will be a relaxed one but the out-of-the-box tasks quickly pull them back to reality. This year, Colors and Endemol Shine India have come up with a concept of ‘vichitra jodis’. We have planned new twists and surprises for the contestants that will test their compatibility, resilience and showcase their ability to bring the best or worst, out of each other,” concludes Abhishek Rege, CEO of Endemol Shine India.
