The Haryana government has come up with a ‘water ATM policy’, to provide clean drinking water to people at public places in cities, state minister Kavita Jain said, on April 9, 2018. The urban local bodies minister said that residents of cities in Haryana, can now look forward to having a water ATM, every 400 metres.

“A proposal to this effect has been approved by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar,” she said. Jain said that soon after notification of this policy, the municipalities would identify public places, such as bus-stands, railway stations, parks, bus stops, parking areas and markets and start installation of water ATMs.

“Functioning of the water ATMs would be ensured in three ways. The municipality would install water ATMs and ensure that these functions properly, or the civic body would install it and hand it over to an agency for its smooth functioning. Corporate social responsibility would also be available, to ensure functioning of water ATMs,” the minister said. Jain said the distance between two water ATMs would be 400 metres, which could be adjusted, according to the convenience of people.
