Goa has planned two mega projects- IT Park at Chimbel village and the Electronic City at Tuem village- which will may prove to be a blessing for IT and electronic companies in the country. These companies are expected to take advantage of lower rentals that these two projects in Goa will be able to offer as compared to many of the other IT hubs in the country like Bangalore and Hyderabad. These projects will have many of the associated infrastructure and services that are required by IT companies like digital library, conference halls and exhibition venues.

This will also take the pressure off from some of the existing IT hubs like Bangalore and Hyderabad that are bursting at the seams to accommodate the ever expanding IT industry. These projects will be state of the art and will have office space with ready-to-use set up, cafeteria, accommodation options like hostels, retail shops and restaurants, multi-use commercial space, recreational places, garden and various other support facilities and services.

The state government is moving fast on setting up the projects. Mutation for the whole of 4.49 lakh square meters of land in Chimbel has been completed. The ownership of land has been transferred to the IT department.
For the first phase of the IT Park at Chimbel, the master plan for almost 1.3 lakh square meters of land has been given to the department of town and country planning. The technical clearance for the master plan is awaited. The fee for the technical clearance has also been paid.
The state government has selected Turbosketch, Fatorda, for carrying out survey of the plot layout and also for fixing the boundary. The government has also finalized the consultant that will conduct the engineering design.
The IT park at Chimbel will have its first phase 1.33 lakh square meters dedicated for startups. The initial estimates for water requirement of the project stands at 4.7 million litres every day (MLD) and the electricity consumption at 63.45 MW. The IT park is expected to create 6,000-7,000 jobs over the next ten years.

Electronic System Design & Manufacturing Cluster
The state government has also planned an electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) cluster at Tuem village. The government has already received Rs 27 crore of grant-in-aid. The total grant-in-aid has been envisaged at Rs 73.7 crore. The Rs 27 crore aid has been deposited in an escrow account. The entire project cost of ESDM cluster at Tuem is estimated at Rs 161 crore. Of this, Rs 73.7 crore is by way of central grant.
The requirement of land for Electronic City at Tuem is 5.97 lakh sq mt.
A number of big and medium sized IT companies have already shown interest in setting up their offices in the two projects.
