UIDAI mission

  • To provide good governance, transparent, efficient and targeted delivery of subsidies, benefits and services, to the residents of India by assigning of unique identity numbers. The expenditure for the same will be incurred from the Consolidated Fund of India or the Consolidated Fund of States.
  • To develop policy, procedure and system for issuing Aadhaar number to residents of India, who request for the same by undergoing the enrolment process and submit their demographic and biometric information.
  • To develop policy, procedure, and systems for updating and authenticating the digital identities of Aadhaar card-holders.
  • To ensure resilience and scalability of the technology.
  • To ensure that identity information is kept secure and confidential of and to provide authentication of individuals’ records.
  • To ensure that all individuals and agencies comply with the provisions of the Aadhaar Act in letter and spirit.
  • To make regulations and rules consistent with the Aadhaar Act, to implement the Act.

What are Aadhaar Seva Kendras or ASK?

The UIDAI has set up exclusive Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs) as a single-stop destination for all Aadhaar-related services. The ASKs offer dedicated Aadhaar enrollment and update services to residents in a state-of-the-art environment. The ASKs operate between 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on all working days.

How many Aadhaar Seva Kendras are there in India?

During phase-1 of the Aadhaar Seva Kendra project, the UIDAI plans to set up 114 ASKs across 53 cities in India, including dedicated centres in all metro cities, state capitals and union territories. The ASKs will run along with over 35,000 Aadhaar Kendras, run by banks, post offices, BSNL and state governments.

How to visit UIDAI-run Aadhaar Seva Kendras?

All UIDAI-run ASKs follow the online appointment system. Any resident can book an appointment for himself or his family member from https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/bookappointment.aspx. In case, you have not booked an appointment, you can visit an ASK and get an automated token. The last token is given at 5:30 pm.

What is an e-Aadhaar?

An e-Aadhaar is a password-protected electronic copy of your Aadhaar, digitally signed by the UIDAI. It can be downloaded from the official website or mobile application of the UIDAI.
