With an intention to promote industrial and infrastructure development in the national capital, the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) was established in February 1971. Since then, this state government body has played a key role in fast-tracking the development of Delhi, by assisting and financing big-ticket projects. Role of DSIIDC

The DSIIDC oversees all state-led infrastructure development in the national capital. Since New Delhi is a union territory, the Delhi government shares the responsibility of developing the business nodes in the city with the union government. The DSIIDC is also responsible for providing infrastructure in the unauthorised colonies, providing housing to industrial workers, developing and maintaining industrial areas under public-private partnership (PPP) model and redeveloping state government buildings.

Major projects by DSIIDC

Housing for urban poor

The DSIIDC builds homes for the urban poor. Around 13,820 houses have been completed and allotted by the DSIIDC. These homes are provided with essential services like electricity, water and sewage disposal, besides other facilities required to make them habitable. These homes have been constructed at several locations – for example, DSIIDC Bawana, Narela, Pooth Khurd and Kanjhawala. To make them cost-effective, fly-ash products were used.

Development works in unauthorised colonies

The DSIIDC also looks after the infrastructural requirements in unauthorised areas of Delhi. It is entrusted with the work of providing basic facilities like roads and storm water drains, in illegal colonies across Delhi. As of March 2021, the DSIIDC was working on road projects in Badli, Rohini, Uttam Nagar, Chattarpur, Bijwasan and 20 other locations across Delhi.

Maintenance of industrial areas

The DSIIDC is responsible for upgrading, augmenting, managing, operating and maintaining infrastructure facilities in the 29 industrial estates located in Delhi. The organisation also ensures efficient and sustainable operation of the spaces and high level of performance standards. The DSIIDC also looks after the pilot projects under PPP model located in Okhla, Patparganj, Bawana and Narela.
