The pace of construction was also significant, as, on an average, one pillar was constructed per day, he said. Depending upon the technical requirement and locational constraints, different shapes have been adopted for the pillars. Totally, there are 2,599 pillars, he said.

The Hyderabad Metro was inaugurated in November 2017, when a 30-km stretch between Miyapur and Nagole, out of the 72-km-long elevated metro rail project, was opened. After completion and stabilisation, the metro rail is expected to carry 15 lakh passengers per day. The L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited is implementing the project across three corridors.

Hyderabad Metro: Services on Ameerpet-Hi-Tec City corridor launched

The metro rail link to Hi-Tec City, the IT hub of Hyderabad, has been launched on March 20, 2019, with the governor of Telangana flagging-off the train operations

March 20, 2019: The eagerly-awaited 10-km stretch (Ameerpet to Hi-Tec City) of Metro Rail Corridor-III, was launched by the governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, ESL Narasimhan, at Ameerpet Metro station on March 20, 2019, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) officials said. The 10-km stretch with nine stations (including Ameerpet) will establish crucial metro rail connectivity to the highly congested IT/ITES service areas of Hi-Tec City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, etc, HMRL officials said. Regular train operations in this stretch will start from 4 pm.

Trains will initially run in a five-km stretch between Jubilee Hills Check Post and Hi-Tec City station, following a traditional railway practice of ‘twin single line method’. Initially, the frequency of trains between Ameerpet and Hi-Tec City will be nine to 12 minutes, as against six minutes frequency in other parts of the operational metro corridors. However, efforts are being made to add additional trains in this section, to improve the frequency and to cater to the huge rush that is expected.

Among the nine stations (on the Ameerpet and Hi-Tec City stretch), Taruni-Madhura Nagar station is being developed as a women-managed station and in due course, it will have shops mostly catering to the needs of women and children. HMRL managing director NVS Reddy said, unlike other stations which are mainly two-level stations, Jubilee Hills Check Post station is a single-level station where concourse level has been avoided, so as to reduce the already high level of the station due to gradient-related problems.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has complained to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar that the launch of metro services amounts to a violation of the model code of conduct in place for the Lok Sabha elections.

In the next few years, it will make a huge difference in the travel characteristics of the city and improve the competitiveness of Hyderabad,” Reddy said. Hyderabad Metro: Trial run between Ameerpet, Hi-Tec City begins

The Hyderabad Metro Rail has started trials runs on the Ameerpet-Hi-Tec City stretch of the metro, which is slated to be inaugurated by December-end of 2018

November 30, 2018: The trial run of the metro train between Ameerpet and Hi-Tec City began in Hyderabad, on November 29, 2018, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the metro train operations. The stretch between Ameerpet and Hi-Tec City has eight stations. A team of technical experts and engineers, led by the managing director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, NVS Reddy and managing director of L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited, KVB Reddy, travelled on the metro train on the 10-km stretch and observed critical parameters and performance of the train during the trial run, an official press release said.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited and L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited have overcome technical challenges owing to sharp curves and gradients and also land acquisition problems, the release said. The train reversal facility beyond Hi-Tec City station upto Trident Hotel, would take a few more months for completion, the release said, adding that a solution has been found and trains would be run on the ‘twin single-line method’. Under this method, the release said, a double-line railway track functions as two separate single-lines, wherein each line works as an independent single line and trains are operated in both up and down directions on the same line, as if these are two independent single lines.

This method, used by many railways around the world, including Indian Railways, would be followed till the train reversal facility beyond Hi-Tec City metro station is completed, the release said. Both, conventional railway signalling system and the sophisticated communication-based train control system of the Hyderabad Metro permit this type of twin single-line train operations, it said.

NVS Reddy had earlier said Ameerpet and Hi-Tec City would be opened to rail traffic by this December-end. Prime minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the 30-km stretch between Miyapur and Nagole out of the 72-km-long elevated Hyderabad Metro Rail project, in November 2017. With the operation on the 16-km stretch between Ameerpet and LB Nagar in September 2018, Hyderabad Metro Rail covers 46 km and has become the second-largest metro rail network in the country, after Delhi.
