Assam Orunodoi Scheme: What is it?
On December 1, 2020, the government of Assam launched the Orunodoi Scheme to alleviate financial crises in poor households. The scheme aimed to ensure the growth and upliftment of households with incomes below the poverty line. The Assam Orunodoi Scheme was launched to ensure that all poor households get basic groceries, fruits, vegetables and medications, at subsidised rates.

The objective of the Orunodoi Scheme
The government of Assam launched the Orunodoi scheme on December 1, 2020, to aid poor households in reaching and meeting at least their basic demands. The scheme has more than 22 lakh beneficiaries and has proven to be a boon for poor households.
The Orunodoi scheme enables families to access food and medicines, helping them meet their basic survival needs. This scheme eliminated the financial crisis for many poor families.
Beneficiaries of the Orunodoi Scheme
The scheme covers almost 20 lakh beneficiaries. The scheme’s benefits are provided to female members of poor families. This move will help empower the women and improve their status within the families. Families with widows, differently-abled and unmarried girls will be given preference over others.
The money usually gets transferred to the bank accounts of all beneficiaries within two months.

Orunodoi Scheme: Eligible beneficiaries
The following beneficiaries will be eligible under the Orunodoi Scheme:
- Families with widows, unmarried women and differently-abled women.
- Families with a divorcee female.
- Families with the National Food Security Scheme cards.
- Families not having ration cards for free rice will get preference.
- Families who own two or three-wheelers under self-help groups can avail of the benefits.

- Disabled/handicapped women
- Separated women
- Divorcee women
- Unmarried women

Orunodoi Scheme: Who is not eligible
- If any family member has a government job or works under the PSUs, the family will not be eligible to get the benefits of this scheme.
- Families with 15 bighas of land, four-wheelers, refrigerators, income above 2 lakhs and own tractors, are not eligible.
- Families owning washing machines and ACs.
- Families that do not have any female members.
- Former or current members of parliament or legislative assembly.

Orunodoi Scheme Assam: Benefits
The scheme, introduced by the Finance Department of Assam allows direct bank transfer of the financial assistance to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, that is, the women of poor households.
- The total amount of benefits reaped by poor households will amount to Rs 10,000. The amount of benefits will be about Rs 830 per month.
- A total of Rs 2,800 crores has been reserved for the scheme. Every year, about Rs 10,000 will be given to each of the families covered under the scheme.
- The amount will be transferred directly into the bank account of females of the families covered under the scheme.
- The government will also be adding the provision of sanitary napkins for women, under the scheme.
Assam Orunodoi Scheme: Implementation structure
- The Finance Department of Assam will be responsible for implementing the scheme.
- The Assam Orunodoi Scheme will be implemented under the leadership of the commissioner and the secretary of the Finance Department.
- The district-level implementation of the scheme will be supervised by the deputy commissioner, aided by a district-level monitoring committee.
- An Orunodoi Sahayak, who will be paid Rs 15,000 per month, will also be appointed in every legislative assembly, for two months, to help implement the scheme.
- The district-level monitoring committee will determine the educational qualifications of the Sahayak.
- After the deliberations, the district level monitoring committee will appoint the Sahayak under the leadership of the deputy commissioner.
Assam Orunodoi Scheme: Selection procedure
The selection procedure has been described below.
- The district-level monitoring committee will prepare a list of eligible beneficiaries.
- The preliminary selection of the families covered under the scheme will be done at the gram panchayat or urban local body level.
- The preliminary selection bodies will prepare a checklist-cum-undertaking as per the eligibility conditions.
- The checklists are collected and submitted to the district-level monitoring committee for further processing.
- The district-level monitoring committee prioritises the beneficiaries according to various benefits.
- This district-level monitoring committee then ensures the collection of other details and bank account information from these families.
- After this, uploading, validation and corrections to the details are done.
- Next, this information is received by the Finance Department and the bank account transfers are made.
- The list is updated every year to make sure that there can be addition and removals of families, as and when they become eligible/ineligible.

Step 3: Choose your district from a list of districts that appear.
Step 4: You can scroll and locate the details or enter the name or beneficiary number in the search box.
Step 5: Click on search and your status will be displayed.
