The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) was established in 1854 for the execution of public works. This includes construction of buildings and maintenance, clubbed with architecture, engineering and project management. The CPWD is an overall construction management department that is responsible for project conception, executing and completing it and finally, maintaining it. It has executed projects across the country even in harsh climatic and geographical conditions and has been active for the last 167 years.
