With an aim to provide Kanpur with planned development, a city that also has enormous historical and religious importance, the Kanpur Development Authority or KDA Kanpur was constituted under the UP Urban Development Act, 1973. Note that Kanpur is arguably the biggest industrial city in Uttar Pradesh. Spread across 300 sq kilometres, the city has grown at a tremendous pace, with its current population hitting over 30 lakh people.

KDA Kanpur housing schemes
Among other things, the KDA Kanpur is responsible for providing affordable housing to all sections of the society. For this, it launches housing schemes from time to time, to allot units in various projects developed by the KDA Kanpur. Among the housing projects developed by the agency are KDA Dream, KDA Height, Signature Greens, etc. The KDA also auctions plots, apartments, and land parcels to the general public.

In March 2020, the board of the KDA decided not to increase the cost of its flats till March 31, 2021, because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic situation. The decision was also taken, keeping in view the fact that a large number of KDA-developed flats were lying unsold in various schemes. The board also decided to hand over possession to the allottees on the basis of the registered agreement till March 31, 2021.

Regularisation under KDA Kanpur Shaman Yojana
Under the KDA’s Shaman scheme (mitigation scheme), those who occupy illegal housing units in the city, can apply for regularisation of their units. Those who are yet to get their illegal units regularised, can benefit from the KDA’s Shaman Yojana 2020 and get their units regularised. The last date for filling online forms in this regard, is January 20, 2021.
In case of residential property, owners will have to pay 50% of the value of the land, as the conversion fee.
