CII takes up restoration of 31 water bodies in Tamil Nadu

[ecis2016.org] As part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, the Confederation of Indian Industry has taken up the restoration of 31 water bodies in Chennai and its neighbouring districts

As many as 31 water bodies in three northern districts of Tamil Nadu, have been taken up for restoration, under an initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The water bodies in Chennai and neighbouring Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts, would be restored under the CII-Southern Region Water Alliance, with the support of Denmark-based pump manufacturer Grundfos, a release said.

The initiative includes cleaning of the floor of lakes and ponds, construction of the filter bed inlet and outlet, creating an easy access, strengthening of the bund, fencing and plantation around the water body. “Water bodies’ rejuvenation would be a major initiative for the private sector, to showcase the strength in creating the necessary impact,” CII southern region corporate social responsibility chairman, Ravi Sam said. Grundfos India, MD, NK Ranganath added: “This initiative is an effort from our end, not only to restore water bodies in city but also create stronger awareness on water conservation.”
