Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, while presenting the budget in the Delhi assembly, has proposed a total expenditure of Rs 5,506 crores for public transport, including road infrastructure in FY 2017-18. This includes a revenue budget of Rs 3,512 crores and capital budget of Rs 1,994 crores.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will also be given Rs 1,156 crores in the next financial year.

“The work of Metro Phase-4 will start in 2017-18 and be completed by December 2021. We have proposed to procure 582 additional metro coaches. I propose an amount of Rs 1,156 crores for DMRC in 2017-18,” Sisodia said.

He said the government has also proposed to add 736 buses under the cluster scheme during 2017-18. Construction of an elevated road over Barapullah Nallah Phase-3, from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar, will be completed this year, for which, the government proposes to allocate Rs 150 crores in the budget, Sisodia said. Rs 100 crores has also been set aside for development of bus terminals and depots in the national capital.

“An amount of Rs 3,056 crores is earmarked for implementation of various schemes, programmes and projects under the transport sector,” he said.
To ensure the safety of pedestrians at ITO, Sisodia said that the government has proposed to construct a skywalk and foot over bridge (FOB) at the junction of Sikandra Road, Mathura Road, Tilak Marg and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg at W-Point and near Hans Bhawan, with an estimated cost of Rs 54.84 crores.
