A small but well-developed town in the Thane district of Maharashtra, Kalyan serves as the exit station of northern India leading towards southern India. It also happens to be the 7th biggest city in Maharashtra and 28th in India and is a part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The railway line divides Kalyan into eastern and western regions and it lies close to the Ulhas River. The eastern part of Kalyan is growing at a comparatively faster pace and is connected well with the nearby major cities. The western half is already more urbanised. Kalyan is also experiencing rapid infrastructural development with many builders in Kalyan launching new residential projects that are presently under construction. The Patripul Bridge connects the eastern and western halves.

  • The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is located approximately8 kilometres away from Kalyan.

A robust bus service operated by Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Transport (KDMT) is available to the residents and commuters of Kalyan. Buses ply between neighbouring places like Dombivali, Titwala, Navi Mumbai, Ambivali, CBD and Bhiwandi. Additionally, railway services offer non-stop connectivity to daily commuters, with trains running from Mumbai-Karjat and Mumbai-Kasara that stop at Kalyan. The newly proposed Central-Harbour and Central-Western railway line work is expected to be completed soon. They will offer smooth connectivity between Kalyan and major parts of Mumbai in the future.

Popular and well-known schools in Kalyan include Arya Gurukul School, St Judes High School and St Mary’s High School. Some of the hospitals that assure quality healthcare in the area include Kalyan Multi-Specialty Hospital and Dr Arbat Gurudeo Maternity Hospital. Residents living in and around Kalyan can find recreational opportunities in nearby places like the Junction Mall, Rani Laxmibai Garden, Kala Talao, Nana-Nani Park and Lord Shiva Paradise.
