In different cases of alleged land grab in Chennai, the police have retrieved properties worth Rs 12 crores and arrested eight people. This included retrieval of a 12,000-sq-ft property at nearby Sholinganallur, where the accused ‘grabbed’ the land using forged documents and impersonating the original owner, the police said. This property was valued at Rs five crores, they added.

Similarly, a 9,600-sq-ft property, grabbed by some people at Pallikaranai using faked documents, was retrieved following a complaint from the land owner, they said. In another case, some people used a similar modus operandi and ‘grabbed’ 3,600 sq ft of land at Pallikaranai. Later, they pledged the property documents with a public sector bank at T Nagar, for a sum of Rs 3.5 crores, the police said.

Overall, land valued at Rs 12.5 crores, grabbed by the accused, was retrieved from them and eight people were arrested in connection with the cases, police said. All of them were produced before a special court dealing with land grab cases and later lodged in prison, the police added.
