[ecis2016.org] Wondering what to do with all the beautiful vintage saris gathering dust in your cupboards? Get them out and proudly display them with this DIY sari wall frame. We’ll show you how
While there are many ways to repurpose an old sari for home décor, perhaps the best way is to use it as a creative wall frame. Not only does this give you the opportunity to show off its beauty but also the freedom to refresh the look of the piece as the years go by, either by changing the sari or the frame.

What you will need
1) A statement sari: This could be a vintage silk or cotton sari with a bold print. Before you begin, ensure that the sari has been ironed to perfection. Any sight of wrinkles or creases could look shabby after being framed.
2) The perfect frame: The frame you choose, will largely depend on the décor style and wall colour of the room where you will display your sari. A minimalistic, simple frame will work well for a sari with bold prints and colours. Or you could upcycle an ornate old frame and use that to display an opulent silk sari.
Make sure you use a frame that has a glass front, especially for cotton saris, to make it look more polished and to protect your sari from dust and discolouration.

There are a few different ways to assemble your frame:
1) If you are using a large frame, you can pull taut the part of the sari you want to display and fold in the remaining fabric inside the frame.
2) When using a small rectangular frame, fold the sari such that it displays the ornate work on the pallu.

3) If you are okay with taking a pair of scissors to your sari, then you can cut it into small pieces and display them in asymmetrical frames. This is perfect if you want to create a statement wall piece.

4) If you prefer a more minimalistic look, simply take a small piece of your sari, paste it onto a white/neutral coloured background and place it in a plain frame.
